Tutorial - LED Lenser Gel Frame

You are here: Home » Tutorials & Tools » Tool Building Tutorials » Lenser Gel Frame Tutorial

LED Lenser Gel FrameThe LED Lenser is a fantastic flashlight and some versions are available in a small selection of colours. But the colours are limited, and only available on a select few models. This tutorial will show you how to build a frame to hold colour gels, allowing you to colour the light output. The frame will work for any size P-range Lenser and most other torches too. The Gel Frame can easily be removed and re-used by simply sliding it over the end of the Lenser.

Step 1Step 1 - Cut two squares of cardboard

Cut two squares out of your cardboard. Both need to be the same size, a little bigger then the end of your LED Lenser.

Step 2Step 2 - Mark out a circle

Draw around the end of your Lenser to make a circle in the centre of one of the pieces of cardboard. Now draw a slightly smaller circle in the middle.

Step 3Step 3 - Cut out the circle

Cut out the circle you have drawn in the centre. This must be slightly smaller than the end of your Lenser, but big enough for light to shine through.

Step 4Step 4 - Cover with tape

Cover both sides of the cardboard with Duck tape. Make sure you cut out the hole in the middle and wrap the tape around the edges.

Step 5Step 5 - Cut out a square

Next you need to mark out a square on the other piece of cardboard and cut it out. The square should be slightly larger than the circle you cut out earlier.

Step 6Step 6 - Cover with tape

Cover this second piece of cardboard with tape, again ensuring all the edges are covered.

Step 7Step 7 - Make the Lenser Attachment

Take a piece of tape, long enough to wrap around the Lenser. Fold the tape over lengthways, leaving a strip of the sticky side along one edge.

Step 8Step 8 - Wrap around the Lenser

Wrap the tape tightly around the Lenser with the sticky edge on the inside protruding from the front of the Lenser

Step 9Step 9 - Make cuts around the tape

Make a series of cuts all the way around the sticky edge of the tape to make small tabs around the end.

Step 10Step 10 - Fold the tabs out

Fold the tabs outwards ready to stick down

Step 11Step 11 - Stick the attachment on

Stick the tabs down onto the back the cardboard ensuring it lines up to the circular hole.

Step 12Step 12 - Tape the front on

Tape the other piece of cardboard onto the front. Wrap the tape around three of the edges, leaving one edge open.

Step 13Step 13 - Insert colour gel

You can now insert a piece of colour gel into the frame. The gel can easily be inserted and removed through the open edge.

Step 14Step 14 - Shine!

Shine your Lenser onto anything you like to illuminate it with colour.
