The former RAF Base at Folkingham was the location for a great meet up with a few other light painters, some of whom had travelled quite some distance to be there. It didn't take long until I realised why!
Established in 1940 as a decoy for neighbouring RAF Bases, Folkingham was given the go-ahead to become a fully functional air station in 1943. Three runways were built, the main one being 6,000 ft long. Accommodation to house 2,189 people was built, along with two T-2 type hangers and 50 hardstands. The base was operational until 1963.
The main runway is now home to hundreds of vehicles including many diggers, tractors, trucks and cranes. The vehicles are left to decay, most no longer have windows in tact, and some part dismantled.
Upon arrival the moon was shining bright and conditions were perfect for shooting. It didn't take long until the clouds stared to blow over, putting an end to the star-trailing some of the guys had planned. I cracked on in my usual style of crazyness and I'm more than happy with the shots I came away with. Once the clock clicked over to Tuesday I even managed to get my Face Down Tuesday shot done!
The night was great fun, I'd definately meet up with the group again, and most certainly will be revisiting Folkingham sometime soon!

I'm often asked how long a light painting shot takes. The answer varies a lot, depending on many factors.
