I'm Andy, and I live in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, UK. I'm a graphic designer and techician by day, running a small but busy website design agency. I have a very busy life but always find time for my friends, and manage to make time to do the things that relax me.
I received a DSLR for Christmas 2010, until then I had only used point and shoot cameras but wanted to get a bit more creative. I was amazed at how creative you can be when you have full control over a camera.
After I'd been taking the usual photos for a little while I was wanting something a little more challenging, something that added some excitement to my shots. I decided to take my camera out one night after it had got dark and started exploring the town looking for illuminated buildings, traffic trails and anything that lit up really.
It wasn't long until I discovered light painting, massively expanding the possibilities of using the camera in low light situations. I love the creativity of light painting, the control it gives to achieve stunning and different shots. I now have a real passion for this art-form and dedicate a fair bit of my weekends to it.
I generally build all my own tools, with the exception of a few torches (although even these have modification such as a gel holder to colour the light). There aren't any commercially available tools for for this style of photography - most people unaware that it even exists (and are amazed when they see the images), plus building my tools is half the fun!
The images in my gallery are all created in camera, in a single exposure. I don't use Photoshop to add or remove anything from them, everything you see has been performed live in front of the lens. I do, however, sometimes adjust the levels (brightness or saturation for example) on some of the images.
Take a look at my Light Painting pages for a more in depth description of the process involved, along with the Tools and Tutorials pages for further details on how this is all achieved.

I'm often asked how long a light painting shot takes. The answer varies a lot, depending on many factors.
